On March 27, 2008, West Gallery is launching a group show called 60″ x 40″. Featuring new works by artists Louie Cordero, Mariano Ching, Jonathan Ching, Al Cruz, Bernard Pacquing, Juan Alcazaren, Ronald Achacoso and Felix Bacolor, 60″ x 40″ aims to coalesce these artists’ works, despite their diversity, in the sameness of their dimensions - all the works are done on 60 by 40 inch canvases. Taking off from the way 2007’s Destroy All Monsters celebrated the low pop they revered - - - B movies and videogames and comic books - - - both in and of itself and for its potential as a conduit to higher modernist sensitivities, Them! is these twelve - - - Ronald Achacoso, Alex Aguilar, Daphne Aguilar, Amy Aragon, Felix Bacolor, Dodo Dayao, Romeo Lee, Omar Taleon, Jay Ticar, Raul Rodriguez, Anthony Vergeire and Cris Villanueva - - - coming to terms with that potential , the subsequent immersion and exploitation.

Ranelle Dial’s solo exhibition, Withering, gathers together varied images of mailboxes from all over the world. The Philippines, US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, England and Spain-these are only some of the places in a global phenomenon where the mailbox is increasingly becoming a defunct entity in the face of faster and more accessible communication systems.

Vintage Malang

March 9 to 25, 2008

After celebrating his 80th birthday with a grand exhibition of 80 works at the Art Center in January, Malang treats art enthusiasts to a rare public viewing of his vintage collection at West Gallery (SM Megamall) starting March 9. Featured are seven works done in 1967 and one work done in 1975. This special exhibition is ongoing until March 25.
