WHERE IS BONG MATA? | July 29 to Sept. 3, 2008 | West Avenue, QC
Artists Bert Antonio, Nilo Ilarde, Romeo Lee, Danny Paz, Dan Raralio, Tito Sanchez, Hubert San Juan, Soler, and Gerardo Tan get together for a unique purpose. That is, to find longtime colleague, Bong Mata, by mounting a group art exhibit dedicated to him, titled, Where is Bong Mata? On view from July 23 to September 3 at West Gallery (Quezon City) are the artists’ recent works, displaying the wide range of their creative talents. (more…)

RESCIND | July 29 to September 3, 2008 | West Avenue, QC
On view at West Gallery is MM Yu’s latest one-woman exhibit titled, Rescind. Featuring works in enamel on canvas, Rescind shows Yu’s continuing fascination with abstract forms and color. It is almost a glimpse of what goes through the mind of the artist, from the selection or filtering process of ideas to the final execution of brushstrokes. The process can be tedious, and it is up to the artist to decide what elements to keep and what elements to do over. Yu strikes that delicate balance in Rescind, showing us that each stroke leads to the next. What she does with it is a positive step toward defining the creative potential she nurtured from the very beginning. Yu is a graduate of the UP College of Fine Arts, majoring in painting. (more…)

Songcayawon made sure that he found a way to nurture his interest in art. He might not have been formally schooled on the basics, but he had met the best teacher in Malang. Hidden Place is a culmination of this lifelong search to devote and apply his previously untapped talent. Seven artists fill the gallery walls of West Gallery (SM Megamall) this month, as 60″ x 40″ opens with a new set of works that are as diverse as the artistic backgrounds of each featured artist. Lawrence Borsoto, Melvin Culaba, Bembol dela Cruz, Dennis Gonzales, Lotsu Manes, Rodel Tapaya, and Cos Zicarelli all bring their unique talents and show how they view the world around them through their works.
